Brown Beauty. Wellness. Mommy Lifestyle.
My name is Aprill Coleman and I’m the full time blogger of Hey Aprill and part time freelance writer to various brands with a dream of becoming a Social Media Manager.
Back in 2007, I gained a profound passion for beauty thanks to a forum called makeuptalk.com. After joining this forum, I discovered that blogging was a thing and created my first beauty blog in 2009. What was the name of the blog? I honestly have no idea! It lived just that long.
2010 rolled around and I decided to give blogging another shot. I called my blog, Glitter.Gloss.Garbage and it was doing well, but I grew out of the name. The content is exactly the same but now the name is Hey Aprill. Hey Aprill is friendly, open and approachable.
Hey Aprill is still full of beauty, lifestyle, and tech product reviews, articles and launch information. The content I create is for all women, but I make sure to cater to black women. I love us and there was a need for black women to have a safe space on the internet to find cosmetic products.
When I am not blogging, I am freelance writing currently for Coupons.com and formerly Payless.com. I am also accepting freelance writing opportunities.
When I am not blogging or freelance writing, I enjoy grilling with my husband, Richard Coleman of www.letmegrill.com, fishing, color therapy, or relaxing with our five children.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please feel free to follow me on social media and we can chat more!
Why did you start blogging in the first place?
I started blogging because I thoroughly enjoyed swatching products. I’ve been a writer since high school, but never had a true appreciation for writing up until a few years ago.
I also noticed that while there were plenty of black beauty bloggers writing content, not a lot were actually swatching and reviewing makeup. The original plan was for Glitter.Gloss.Garbage to become a product swatch and review site for WOC, but it did not come to fruition because of financial circumstances.
