pastel rain 2

From an early age, I learned that black and gray were the best colors to wear.  Black clothing tends to be versatile, slimming and not too hard to destroy with food and beverage accidents, which is a must for a klutz like me.  When I was 15, one of my friends described my closet in an AOL email survey as this:

…and one random SHIRT.

However, the older I get, the more I crave bright colors, so I’m very happy to see FingerPaints’ limited edition Pastel Rain for spring 2014.

FingerPaints is a vastly underrated brand exclusive to Sally Beauty Supply.  They have a variety of quality polishes for an affordable price and worth a look while you’re stocking up on China Glaze.  Their limited edition sets are a favorite of mine, especially during the holidays.

Pastel Rain has three bright pastel crèmes with corresponding glitter toppers.  While swatching, I decided to shake things up a bit and mix the crèmes with different colored glitters for a better contrast.

Dream I Can Fly (2 coats) is a bright turquoise crème.  It is bluer than China Glaze For Audrey.

Shower With Flowers (1 coat over Dream I Can Fly) has tiny pastel green bar and hexagonal glitter with gold holographic glitter.  It looks a lot like Milani’s Sugar Coated.

Mistful Thinking (3 coats) is a bright chartreuse crème.  Unlike the other cremes, this one dries a bit satin.  It reminds me of a squishier version of OPI’s Did It On ‘Em.

A Pink of Pixie (1 coat over Mistful Thinking) is similar to Shower With Flowers, except with pink glitter and silver holographic glitter.  Milani also has a similar polish, Sugar Burst.

Springtime Bloom (2 coats) is a bright pink crème.  It’s not unique but the good formula sets it apart.

Crystal Springs (1 coat over Springtime Bloom) has blue and green pastel glitter with iridescent mylar flakes.  With careful application, the flakes will lay flat on the nail.

I can’t wait to bust out with these colors now that spring is here!  They remind me a lot of Lilly Pulitzer dresses…I don’t have one of the signature bright sundresses, but I once found a brand new Lilly dress (complete with $350 price tag) for $13 at my favorite thrift store.  It now has a special place in my closet, next to all my black and gray dresses.

Is anyone as color shy as I was growing up?  Or do you rock the brights, Lilly-style?
