DIY Dye is the hottest DIY book for the summer! This 96 paged book contains everything you need to create bright and funky temporary color right in the comfort of your own home. I follow many bloggers that color their hair at home like Nails and Noms and Let Them Have Polish and Ishah x Beauty, and I’m always in awe and wonder how they do it. This book might help!

DIY Dye has all the tips you need including how to bleach the hair; coloring the hair using Kool Aid, chalk, henna and food coloring.

Check out an excerpt from the book on how to make homemade hair spray to tame flyaways!

Homemade Hair Spray

Save money and ditch gross toxins by making your own hairspray. You won’t believe how cheap and simple it is to make alcohol-free (alcohol dries out your hair!) spray. And it works—I swear!

Materials

1 cup filtered water

Small saucepan

4 teaspoons sugar (less if you need less strength; more if you’re looking for Superman-strength hold)

6 to 8 drops essential oil (optional, but suggested if you enjoy pleasant scents)

Funnel

Spray bottle

Makes 1 cup

Making the spray

1. Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan.

2. Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Remove pan from the heat.

3. Cool completely and then add any essential oils.

4. Using a funnel, pour the mixture into the spray bottle.

5. Get rid of those flyaways!

This book is full of helpful, colorful illustrations to guide you along the way. Check out this photo from the book that features rainbow ombre braids! I think this look is really cool, but if I did something like this I’d make the top part of my hair black or blonde.
