I’m sure I’m not the only person who had that reaction after seeing the ads for Muppets: Most Wanted and OPI’s tie-in promotion for the 2014 Soft Shades collection. To me, it feels like yesterday that 2011’s Muppets and OPI’s holiday collection was just released. After OPI’s Spotlight on Glitter’s dupe carousel, which featured a repromote of the OPI Muppets polish Rainbow Connection, I braced for disappointment.
Good news: it’s not disappointing…at all!
While this collection is officially a Soft Shades line, it’s by no means boring. There are two conservative signature OPI pale crèmes but Muppets: Most Wanted is balanced out with a lovely pearl, two glitters, a duochrome and a metallic polish.
Chillin’ Like A Villain (3 coats) is a peachy nude creme. Peach colors tend to be my nemesis since I rarely know what to expect how they will look like against my skintone. Chillin’ Like A Villain is pale enough to counteract the orange tones that tend to look garish.
Gaining Mole-Mentum (1 coat layered over Chillin’ Like A Villain) contains shredded pink and gold glitter in a clear base. I gently dabbed it the polish on to position the glitter to my liking rather than applying it as a regular coat of polish.
I Love Applause (4 coats) is a milky pink crème. I LOVE this color but I am also disappointed by the application and consistency of the formula since I needed four coats for full coverage.
Let’s Do Anything We Want (1 coat over I Love Applause) is reminiscent of last year’s Oz: The Great and Powerful Soft Shades polish Lights of Emerald City due to the shared large white square glitter. While Lights of Emerald also has iridescent square glitter, Let’s Do Anything We Want has small hexagonal white and pink glitter. I love how the white and pink glitter complements the milky I Love Applause.
Int’l Crime Caper (3 coats) is a white pearl with pink iridescent flash and subtle glass flecks. I prefer this pink flash over gold-tinged pearl polishes such as Chanel Pearl Drop.
Muppets World Tour (1 coat over Int’l Crime Caper) is a fine silver and white glitter accented with blue, gold and pink glitter. The glitter mix reminds me of candy, especially when layered over white.
Kermit Me To Speak (3 coats) is a green-to-purple duochrome. If you like duochromes, you need to pick this one up due to its apparent color shift and easy application.
Miss Piggy’s Big Number (3 coats) is a shimmery dark blue metallic polish. I previously mentioned that OPI included a few shades that are similar to previous Chanel polishes in Nicole by OPI’s spring 2014 core collection, such as Empowered Emerald. For those of you who missed out on Chanel’s summer 2013 Bel-Argus, Miss Piggy’s Big Number is a dead-on dupe, with a far superior application and coverage. While applying, brushstrokes are apparent but they blur once dried.
I’m pleasantly surprised by this collection due to the variety. My must-haves are: Let’s Do Anything We Want, Int’l Crime Caper, Kermit Me To Speak and Miss Piggy’s Big Number.
I haven’t watched either of the new Muppets films…the only one I’ve watched (aside from A Muppet Christmas Carol) was The Muppet Movie. Will you be tuning in to either the movie or picking up any of the polishes?
