A lot of us put off things that we shouldn’t. We say that we’re going to get round to it at some point, but the problem with procrastination is that it becomes more and more difficult to get something done that longer it goes on for!
We’re going to take a quick look at some of the common things that otherwise responsible adults keep telling themselves they’ll do some other day in the near future. It’s best to just get these things over and done with as soon as possible!
Writing a will
We may as well start with the most morbid thing on the list! Writing a will isn’t exactly the most fun thing in the world, but there’s no denying that it’s important. The fact is that you never know what’s going to happen, and if something were to happen to you before you’ve written a will, then there are going to be a lot of expensive financial and legal complications. The government will probably end up with half your assets. Consider getting it done asap.
Going to the dentist
More so than going to the doctor, people often put off going to the dentist. It’s not quite as ‘depressing’ an activity as writing a will, but it’s still not much fun having someone poking around in your mouth! But it’s not so much that than it is the fact that people underestimate the importance of going to a dentist every few months. The fact is that oral hygiene problems can lead to a plethora of health problems in later life.
Most people don’t get anywhere near the amount of exercise they should be getting. This is the biggest reason for people having so many mobility and general health problems in later life, as well as the overwork of our national healthcare systems. A lot of people keep saying they need to start exercising, but that day never seems to come for most of them. The trick is to get into exercise slowly. If you don’t exercise and you just hit a treadmill and try going at it at full pelt, you’re going to be tired, sore, and discouraged very quickly. Ease into it!
Most people in the west earn enough to have a fairly comfortable disposable income every month. But very few people actually save that money up. This is something else that a lot of those people lament; they keep saying they wish they’d saved up more during their life, and that they’ll start saving some day. Make that day this day. The sooner you start, the more you’re going to have when you need it.
Fulfilling your dream
This is one of the most important things to consider, even if it doesn’t relate directly to your finances or physical health. So many of us want to get something done with our lives. Some want to own a business. Others want to write a book or start painting. But so many of us get caught up with other responsibilities and time-wasting activities that we never get these things done. Think about your life goals and start thinking more seriously about getting to them. There’s no time like the present.
