Review: Rio De Keratin (updated)

I got the opportunity a while back to review Rio De Keratin.  It is very important to me that my reviews are accurate and truthful and I try to make sure I cover all bases.  So I used it twice before deciding to post a review to make sure I was honest with myself first and foremost.

Rio De Keratin is a cocolada treatment that is used to straighten the hair.

This is PREGNANCY SAFE!! No Formaldehyde like your $300 salon Brazilian treatments! (yay)

The biggest issue with Keratin treatments, are that they are so expensive.  Rio De Keratin eliminated this by making a very affordable, at home kit.

What comes in the box:

  • Cocolada Shampoo
  • Cocolada Conditioner
  • Cocolada Keratin treatment
  • Gloves
  • Wide-toothed comb
  • directions

What you will need:

  • Time (at least 45 minutes to 1 hour)
  • Towel
  • Blow Dryer
  • Round brush or paddle brush
  • Flat iron

You will start by washing the hair, DO NOT follow up using the conditioner. You are washing the hair to cleanse it of any chemicals that might be in the hair.  Next you wanna blow dry the hair until it is completely dry.  Next, saturate the hair with the keratin treatment spray, combing it in as you go (use the comb that came with the kit it’s great).  For my hair length, I used about half the bottle for full saturation.  Now you wanna get a paddle brush or a round brush and blow dry and brush it until it is smooth.  After that its time to seal the treatment in.  Take a nice hot flat iron (not too hot, but definitely not warm), section your hair off in small parts and flat iron all of the hair.  Last step, wait 24 hours and re-wash with the shampoo…and this time use the conditioner.

I like the results from the treatment.  The volume after you blow dry and flat iron is amazing! I had no irritation, no allergic reactions (As usual please do a skin patch test).

Before: I wear that bag thing on my head, it had been on my hair for like 3 days…yup I know

With the Cocolada treatment in:

After just blow dry:

Flat Iron (I hope by now that you understand that I make this face ALOT, not that I’m unhappy, just nonchalant #oink ):

(I have to find a 24hr later picture) but there’s little to no difference.

I prefer this over a relaxer, because relaxers give such un-natural texture to hair.  Rio de Keratin was great about giving natural texture, healthy shine and softness.  This is one product I HIGHLY recommend. The kit is $100 now $75, and you can get about two uses out of each kit depending on the length of your hair.
