Trind Keratin Treatment and Caring Colors

I’ve heard amazing things about Trind’s Nail Balsam, so I was elated when I was contacted to review their Keratin Treatment.  Along with their treatment, they also included their acetone-free nail polish remover and three Caring Colors.

Burst My Bubble is a bright Barbie pink crème.

Mellow Yellow is a primary yellow.

Surf’s Up is a metallic blue-green shimmer.

The crème polishes are a pain to apply…I’m not sure if it was the humidity in my apartment, but the formula is streaky and thick after three coats.  A coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat evened it all out, but I wouldn’t grab these shades.  Surf’s Up, however, has a great, evenly applying formula.  While it takes three coats, there are no leveling issues.

While the colors are hit-and-miss, Trind’s Keratin Treatment is a solid performer.

Disclaimer:  I’m not a scientist by any means, so I honestly do not know the science behind the ingredients.  Loodieloodieloodie  is a one-stop shop for impeccably detailed explanations behind the science of nail treatments.  On top of being a nail blogger, Anna is a scientist with a Ph.D.

There are two bottles in the treatment:  the Keratin Nail Restorer and the Keratin Nail Protector.  The Keratin Nail Restorer, like Trind’s Nail Balsam, is a moisturizer applied to the nails prior to polish application.  The main difference is the addition of keratin.  After a minute of application to the bare nail, the product is rubbed in then followed by application of the Nail Protector, a clear base coat also containing keratin.

According to the instructions, you need to remove the treatment with Trind’s acetone free remover and reapply every day for 4 weeks.  Needless to say, I didn’t do that.  Instead, I have applied both before every manicure for the last month.  I don’t think the Nail Protector was meant to be a full-blown base coat judging from the lack of wear I’ve experienced using it.  As for the acetone-free remover…I just have zero patience when it comes to removing polish.  While it well for removing the Nail Protector, I can’t see myself using it as a workhorse.

While many people are skeptical by nail treatments, this DOES work.  My nails have been in fantastic condition…I’ve had to file them down significantly twice since using the product.  However, like all good things, it must come to an end.

The problem with protein-based hardening treatments is the risk of making your nails too hard thus making them brittle.  Last week I discontinued using the product because it worked TOO well…I now have cracks on one side of three different nails below the quick.  But don’t fret!  Luckily, they were all salvageable and lived to see another day (Stay tuned for my nail repair post!).

Due to my experience, while the Keratin Treatment works well, it’s not for the long run.  I’d recommend using it for a maximum of three weeks, then using it as needed.  If you already have hard, strong nails, take a pass or else you may encounter the same problem as I did.  However, if you have flimsy, weak nails, this may be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Despite the cracking, I’m impressed by Trind’s Keratin Treatment.  I plan on trying their Nail Balsam to supplement my nail moisturizing routine since it does not contain keratin.  I wasn’t so crazy about the Caring Colors I received, but I’ll definitely be back for more of their products.

@geniabeme:disqus, I’d pick an easier to apply alternative…I have a feeling one of this year’s NOPIs is similar.
@beautyjudy:disqus Thanks! It’s $46 at but they have a 20% off coupon code right now!
@destanypingle:disqus give Essie Millionails a try! It worked wonders on Aprill!

  • OMG seriously you have such great nails. I am obsessed with that yellow on you. And OMG that pink is gorgeous. Bummer they are hard to apply but glad the Keratin works. Super great review.

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

  • marciaf

I have worn 2 and played with 2 and they weren’t hard to apply. I love the metallic Surf’s Up best. The colors look wonderful against your skintone Aprill.

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

it might be the humidity in my swatching room…Surf’s Up was a lot easier than the cremes 🙂

  • these polishes are amazingly beautiful

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

I’ve heard nothing but good things about them! I’ll turn back to this if my nails get weak again.

  • FabZilla_Kath

I’m not familiar w/ the brand but I’m interested to try this treatment. I have to pay attention to my weak nails

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

this will definitely help with weak nails! The brand is a bit pricey but you can find it on sites with coupon codes 😀

  • Just about every strengthening treatment I’ve tried uses protein and has this problem. I’ve been using IBX now for several months, and so far, no brittleness!

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

how do you like IBX?! Do you use them under gel or regular polishes? A friend said she didn’t see too much of a difference with regular polish. I do love Famous Names’ Dadi’ Oil…amazing stuff!

  • Looving these creamy shades!

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

they’re pretty but a bit of a pain!

  • Anastasia

I used Trind products many years ago because my nail tech recommended them, looks like I may need to revisit them again 🙂

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

I’m going to order Nail Balsam to use as a regular moisturizer! Your nail tech definitely knew the business 🙂

  • Beautiful swatches!

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

      thank you <3

  • Burst my Bubble is so pretty.

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

I wish it was easier to handle!

  • Ooh – Surf’s up is gorgeous. Beautiful swatches!

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

      thank you!

  • Betzy Carmona

    The colors are very pretty

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

      yes, they are 🙂

  • I love the packaging, and that pink is GORGEOUS

    • Janice Agagas-Welch

thanks! They’re a bit tall for standard polish bottles, so it may be a problem depending on your polish storage 🙂

  • Shelley Polarbelle

I’m finding very similar results to yours. My nails were hard to begin with and I live in a dry climate so I think I probably shouldn’t be using it every day. The colors are reall.y pretty.
