4 Unusual Facts About Fragrances

Whether you are the type of gal that goes all out and buys the most expensive perfume you can find, or a babe that prefers a body spray you want to know about the slightly weird and wonderful fragrance facts below. Read on to find out what they are.

You can make your own.

Yes, of course, you can have a go at DYing your own perfume, just like the lady in the video below does, but that no what I’m talking about here.

In fact, what I want to discuss is the luxury experience days when you get to visit a perfumery and learn about the process of making a fragrance. Topics usually covered include the difference between top notes, heart notes, and base notes, and how to select the right one for your perfume, as well as what type of scents go best with certain occasions.

Of course, the ultimate goal is that you get to mix your own customized perfume that only you will have access to.

Some contain icky ingredients.

A not quite so lovely fact about perfume is that some of them contain pretty gross ingredients. The most expensive fragrance often have ambergris in them, which is the stuff that whales spit up on the shore!

While others contain ‘civet’ which is actually an ingredient that comes from the anal gland or even feces, yes, that’s right, of a civet cat. Of course, any fragrance that contains these is definitely not vegan-friendly and may well out others off too.

Sadly, these yucky animal products are not the only things in perfume that might give you cause for concern. This is because some contain phthalates often noted as just fragrance or perfume, something which has been shown to disrupt the endocrine system.

Luckily, you can get around this by buying organic perfumes, which only use and list the best ingredients. Something you can establish by checking the label before you buy.

You need to moisturize before you apply.

Next, a smart fact that few people seem to know about fragrance is that if you moisturize before you apply it, you will help it last for much longer. This is because the perfume molecules stick better to moist skin.

Oh, and if you think applying perfume to your wrists and then rubbing them together it is a good idea, you may need to reassess your technique. The reason being that by doing so, you can create too much of an increase in heat that can actually distort the scent of the perfume.

Finally, a more fun fragrance fact us you can actually get a scent that matches with your lipstick! Yes, that’s right in my post here you can see that Mac has created Shadescents that correspond to six of their most popular lipsticks.

They even have the caps of the same color as the lipstick they go with, which not only look adorable but also makes getting ready in a rush easy as well.
