Why is it that every time you search for information on getting healthy, you’re directed to a bunch of sites that talk about diet and exercise? Don’t get us wrong, we certainly believe that adding healthy eating habits and physical activity to your life can improve your overall health, but aren’t there other things you can be doing?   1. Get Some Rest

You can improve your mental and physical health by simply getting at least eight hours of sleep every night. Too often, we neglect the need for rest and try to survive on whatever time our busy schedules leave us with to sleep.

Though you may not feel it initially, over time, not getting enough sleep can lead to difficulty concentrating or thinking, mood changes, high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, risk of heart disease and diabetes, weight gain, a low sex drive, and poor balance just to name a few. By making enough time in the day to get your rest, you give your body a chance to heal, replenish, and rejuvenate.

  1. Kick the Bad Habits

Everyone has a bad habit or a guilty pleasure. From binge-watching television and playing hours of video games to gambling, drinking, and using drugs, bad habits can have a major impact on both our physical and mental health. Although we know the activity may not be the best for our health, the pleasure sensors in the brain provide a sensation we want to feel repetitive.

Bad habits can quickly become addictions, which can essentially ruin personal relationships, finances, physical health, and your mental health. Getting healthy involves a lot of lifestyle changes. Though eating good, healthy foods and staying active are at the top of the list for improving your health, they aren’t the only steps you can start taking to feel physically and emotionally better. So, get some rest, kick those bad habits, reduce the screen time, and do things that put a smile on your face and see how much healthier you feel in the process.
