Beauty Junkees Pro Makeup Blending Sponge Set

Back in October 2013, I did a review of Beauty Junkees Pro Makeup Blending Sponges. I wasn’t very vocal about my thoughts on the sponges because, at that time, I never used a BeautyBlender to compare it to Beauty Junkees. Times have changed, and I’ve tried more than a few sponges since then, Beauty Blender included and it made me realize how stiff the Beauty Junkees were. Regardless, they were very useful but stiffer than the Beauty Blender. Times have changed, and the brand has reformulated their makeup sponges. But are they really for the better?

Last year, Beauty Junkees made a few modifications to the Pro Makeup Blending Sponge set. Not only has the priced dropped dramatically ($11.97), the new sponges are softer, squishier and easier to use. Let’s break down each sponge from the set, what changed, and how to use.

As a note, while I no longer have all of the old sponges, I do remember their performance quite well +

Pink teardrop sponge

In 2016, the pink teardrop sponge holds water better than the 2013 version. The size has not changed, neither has the color. The new sponge is denser, and that makes for better foundation application. The pink teardrop can be used just like a beauty blender, to apply foundation and/or concealer. Use the rounded end to apply foundation in large areas like the cheeks and forehead, and use the pointed tip for hard to reach areas and concealer.

Purple pear sponge

Back in 2013, I was a fan of using the purple pear sponge to apply BB Creams and CC Creams. In 2016, nothing has changed. The purple pear sponge got denser, which is a plus because it is squishier than the previous version. The squishier (yes, I’m going to keep using this word) texture makes for easier application.

Blue sculptor sponge

Contouring was a thing in 2013, but it was not an uber popular thing. If you want to sculpt the contour of your dreams, this is the sponge you want to do it with. The blue sculptor sponge, like the other sponges, got softer and easier to use. The flat side is still perfect for applying cream foundations and applying cream contour products on the cheek area. You can apply with precision with this sponge, and blend to perfect with it or another brush.

Green spade Green oval sponge

The green spade sponge made the biggest change out of all the sponges. It’s previously funny shape has evolved into a thin, oval-shaped sponge. With the change in shape came a change in texture, and better application. The green oval sponge is a wonderful concealer applicator. It’s really great to apply in the delicate eye area, as well as to apply foundation in those little nooks and crannies, like the side of your nose and around the ear.

Overall, Beauty Junkees made some phenomenal changes to the sponges, making it a beauty must have for 2016 and beyond.
