New from Ciate is Liquid Velvet Matte Lip Slick. Velvet Matte Lip Slick is an intensely moisturizing, long-wear matte formula. Lip Slick contains hyaluronic acid which promises to condition the lips and make them appear fuller. Keep reading for more photos, swatches and review.
Ciate’s packaging is a 0.22oz tube with a double doe foot wand attached to a black screw cap. The formula is very thick and creamy in texture, and you definitely get enough product out for one full application. The formula is ultra light and once it dries down it feels like nothing is on my lips at all. Ciate’s Lip Slick is the most comfortable creamy matte I have encountered thus far. Lip Slick has a slight perfumey scent to it, but you will not notice unless you are actually sniffing the wand. The scent dissipates after about 6 minutes. The formula of all the shades is well pigmented and completely opaque. The formula starts to fade after 4 hours in the middle section but stays well around the border of the lips.
When dealing with application, I found it to be a bit of a chore. The wand is not as precise as I would like it to be, so I used a lip brush to apply around the outline of my lips and fill in with the wand. I really didn’t find this to be a huge issue because I have to do it with more than a few creamy matte products from other brands.
There are five shades available in the collection and I swatched three of the five:
Swoon is a warm toned nude with peachy undertones.
Smitten is a rose toned, nude pink.
Risque is a warm toned tomato red. Risque is a perfect red-orange lippie.
I did do lip swatches but I will admit they are not perfect due to my issues with application. The one thing I hate about liquid/cream mattes is the weird thing it does on the inside of my lips. Maybe because I’m a mouth breather? Not really sure.
Are these shades black girl friendly? Yes. Swoon has enough of a peach undertone to look fantastic on dark skin and Smitten and Risque are perfect shades for brown skin tones.
