Detox, Defend and Hydrate Your Skin With Luzern La Defense Urban Protect

As quiet as its kept, everyone’s skin is exposed to UV rays. Whether you get it directly from the sun, or you are exposed to it thanks to artificial sources, you are putting your skin at risk for extensive UV damage and most skin cancers. Long-term UV damage shows itself in the form of wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, dark spots, and pre-cancerous skin changes (source).

Then there’s pollution. Cigarette smoke, vehicle emissions, dust, solid dirt particles and factory emissions are just a few examples of pollution that directly affects your skin. While the skin does a pretty good job of creating a barrier between you and the elements, the skin is not completely impenetrable. Factor in poor air quality, and you will come to the realization that between UV damage and pollution, your skin is in trouble. Long-term exposure to air pollution can cause wrinkles, fine lines, dry skin, acne, dull skin tone and skin allergies.

According to Luzern Labs, pollution not only clogs pores but reduces oxygen and causes free radical damage to healthy skin cells, so like any good skincare brand, they created a solution to the problem with the La Defense Urban Protect Collection.

I got the opportunity to give a few of the brand’s superstar products a test spin, plus I’ll give you the opportunity to try my favorite product from the line for yourself!

La Defense Urban Protect Detox Masque, $72

Absorb heavy metals, impurities, and chemicals from the surface of the skin with this detox masque. Urban Protect Detox Masque contains bentonite and kaolin clay to bond to positively charged toxins like a magnet, lifting them from the surface skin. This masque also contains Hyaluronic Acid, L-Arginine, and Squalene to deeply hydrate the skin.

To use, apply to cleansed skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

This masque has a lotion-like texture and consistently that threw me for a loop. Upon application, it gives the skin a cooling sensation that lingers for a few minutes. After rinsing, my skin felt clean and refreshed. The jar is generous enough to use as often as you want, but I’m guessing this is a 30 day supply.

La Defense Urban Protect Micellar Cleansing Water, $45

This Micellar Water does things that your drugstore Micellar Water just can’t-do- removes pollution, tones, boosts skin’s cellular function. It contains pumpkin enzyme ferment to remove dead skin cells, Sambucus nigra flower extract to tone and soothe skin; zinc, copper, and magnesium to remove waste and toxins from the skin, and gluconolactone to neutralize heavy metals. This micellar water left my skin feeling clean, refreshed and hydrated.

La Defense Urban Protect Day Lotion, $80

This powerful, lightweight moisturizer contains anti-blue light protection to shield against skin damage caused by computer, televisions, tablets, and smartphones. It also contains vitamin C to even out skin tone, and polyphenols to create a protective barrier against toxins. This moisturizer is super light, making it perfect to wear to work, or wherever you have to be. I’ve never encountered a lotion that absorbed as quickly as this one. The fragrance is light, fresh, and dissipates quickly.

La Defense Urban Protect Mineral Sunscreen, $54

If you want to defend your skin against aging, you need sunscreen. This mineral-based sunscreen shields skin from damaging UV rays, while lutein guards against free radical damage. This broad spectrum, SPF 30 sunscreen also claims to hydrate. This sunscreen has a lotion-like texture that applies well, has a weird texture as it is drying, but dries down completely smooth. Like the Urban Protect Day Lotion, it has a light, fresh scent that dissipates quickly. As an added bonus, this sunscreen does not leave a white cast, so fellow brown girls can use it too!
