Today is World Stroke Day, and to help create awareness about a disease that took the life of someone near and dear to me. Every 2 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke. That is almost 800,000 strokes that occur each year. Another sobering statistic- 1 in 6 people will have a stroke in their lifetime.
There’s good news as well. Stroke is largely treatable if you know the signs. The American Stroke Association licensed the song Y.M.C.A. by The Village People to create a F.A.S.T. parody song and music video that raises awareness of the warning signs of stroke. Knowing the signs is important because STROKE IS TREATABLE. Recognizing the signs and responding quickly when a stroke occurs could mean the difference between recovery and disability.
