Walmart.Disclosure

Did you know 1 in 6 families struggle with hunger in America, according to the USDA? That is a depressing statistic considering that this includes children and elderly people. Did you also know that you can spark change, simply by purchasing some of your favorite products from Walmart? As a Fight Hunger Ambassador, I want to explain the We Spark Change program and hope that you will help me Fight Hunger.

From April 6 to May 3, when you buy a specially marked item from Walmart***, you help secure one meal on behalf of local Feeding America** food banks. So, if you buy one item, a meal is secured! At the end of the campaign, sales will be tallied and General Mills will write a check directly to feeding America based on sales reports.

I made a run to Walmart a few days ago and purchased some boxes of cereal. See the special marking on the boxes? This is what you want to grab off the shelf. Participating brands include Unilever, General Mills, ConAgra, Campbell’s, Kellogg’s and Kraft.

If you don’t care to participate this way, there are other ways that you can help make a difference:

  • Donate at the register-from April 6 to May 3, you can give  donations of $1*, $2, or $5 to your local Feeding America Food Bank at the register of any participating Walmart.
  • Get social- Round up six family memebers, co workers, or friends and shoot a selfie to represent 1 in 6 Americans who struggle with hunger. Upload to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Use the hashtag #WeSparkChange and make sure your photo is public. For every social share, one meal will be donated.

So far in Mississippi, 580,101 meals have been secured. See how your local food bank is benefiting here:

Will you make a purchase to help fight hunger? Comment and let me know.

Footnotes:

*$1 helps provide 10 meals; 1 meal is equivalent to $0.10
**Secured by Feeding AmericaⓇ on behalf of local member food banks

***Donations are made by the supplier, not Walmart.
