It is time to get familiar with K-beauty and there’s a book to help us out. Korean Beauty Secrets: A Practical Guide To Cutting Edge Skincare & Makeup is a guide to your practical, one-stop shop that covers Korean beauty methods for every skin type and color. This book was flawlessly written by Kerry Thompson, the writer behind the blog Skin & Tonics and Coco Park, the writer behind the blog The Beauty Wolf.
Korean cosmetics dates all the way back to 57BC, but we got our first taste of K-beauty back in 2012 with the introduction of BB Cream. BB Creams had been a Korean staple since 2005 and since then, k-beauty products have received more visible in Western media.
K-beauty products are considered high-quality, innovative, competitive in pricing and visually appealing.
Important topics covered in Korean Beauty Secrets includes:
- Assessing your skin
- Building your routine
- Example routines to get you started
- K-beauty shopping
- Ingredient translations
I found the example routines to be the absolute most helpful section of the book. The author rounded up her favorite K-beauty bloggers, 9 to be exact, all with varying skin types and concerns, to show their routines with readers. I was happy to see one of my favorite K-beauty bloggers, Sheryll of The Wanderlust Project. This brown beauty is currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and dealing with a unique environment that is humid with heavy pollution. Her section was an excellent read.
The book also covers BB creams, CC creams, primers, cushions, prep butter, concealer, eye brightener, blushers and more.
If you are completely clueless about K-beauty, this book is for you. This book has created more lemmings as if I needed to buy more beauty products 😀
