Lacquerous- Netflix For Nails…. What?

Honestly, I thought it was going to be a box subscription service, but boy was I wrong. Lacquerous thinks that it’s going to change the game when it comes to trying out high end nail lacquers.

So the way Lacquerous works is they have a wide selection of lacquers that you cant afford that you always wanted to try. So for a monthly fee of $18 you get three high end lacquers, use it all you want, then you return it after using it with the prepaid return label. The Bag Borrow or Steal for nail lacquers.  I see so many problems with this…

1. Sanitation– The first question that came to my mind was how sanitary is this? You are not even allowed to sell used lacquers on Ebay, but they are going to let people use lacquers that others have used?

2. Switcharoo– I worry about consumers receiving fake bottles of lacquers because the person that used it before them bought a fake bottle off Ebay or Amazon or some other site. We as bloggers know all about authenticity, I’m confident that they don’t.  I also worry about people pouring the lacquer out and refilling it with a cheaper dupe. It’s going to happen, trust me. The whole ‘treat your nail polish as you would want to receive it’ is bullhockey. I will not sit here and pretend that people are not inconsiderate and deceptive.

3. Price efficiency– Time to do a little math-  $18 a month right… that’s $216 a year. Chanel polishes are $26 bottles a piece. You can save $18 a month and buy 8 bottles that are authentic, and most importantly… YOURS. Dior lacquers are $23 a bottle… that’s 9 bottles a year… again.. no questions of authenticity and YOURS. I don’t know what other brands they are offering but we know it’s not worth it to get a single OPI, China Glaze, Zoya, Orly, or Julep in that box.

Ok edit- they are offering Chanel, Tom Ford, NARS, Dolce and Gabbana and ‘many more’….

I have so many questions that run through my mind. What do you think about this new service? Is this something that you are going to look into?

This lacquorous is a great idea, for a conversation starter to discuss reasons why lacquorous won't work.

I believe companies would be well advised to get a nail blogger or two to consult with prior to going to market. Then they should really use their listening ears when they get advice from interested consumers. Which I am sure we are happy to provide! For free even! : )

I would never even consider this. I don't see me wanting to "try" a polish THAT BAD that I would go to this much trouble and your first point of it being unsanitary is the best point of all. YUCK!

Very interesting- in theory it's smart…but I honestly wouldn't trust a random person with 3 high end polishes…hellooooo DEPOTTING! I guess the sanitation isn't a huge issue for me because I do go to salons…

This is gross. I'd like to point out that you can't even "use it all you want". You're limited to 3 uses, and yes they do check and determine whether or not you have over-used more than 3 times (how they would measure this is not stated.)

Yeah that bothers me as well! I use lacquers more than three times 🙁
