I really didn’t know what to think when this brush cleansing balm hit my desk. As a matter of fact, I never used a brush cleaning balm at all and didn’t know it existed. I am a big fan of washing brushes with baby shampoo and/or dawn dishwashing liquid when I’m looking for the ultimate clean. I spot clean from time to time with Sephora Daily Brush Cleanser in between washes and wash all my dirty brushes at the end of the week.

MUA Professional Brush Cleansing Balm Review (1)

MUA Professional Brush Cleansing Balm ($10; 1.5oz) is clearly a Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser ($20; 2oz) dupe after doing my research on brush cleaning solids.

MUA Professional Brush Cleansing Balm contains goat’s milk, olive oil and other gentle cleansers specially designed to gently cleanse brushes while maintaining their original shape. This product promises to leave brushes soft, clean and freshly scented.

Packaging:

MUA Cleansing Balm is packaged in a 1.5oz jar. Open the screw cap to reveal a solid block of a lightly floral scented substance in the jar. At first view, I thought I was about to oil cleanse my brushes, but after following the directions I was wrong.

How to use:

1. Wet the bristles of the brush

2. Swirl the wet brush over the cleansing balm until it creates a light lather.

3. Massage lather into bristles until clean

4. Rinse, reshape bristles and lay flat to dry

5. Rinse balm to refresh

Results:

I demo-ed this blog post with a clean MUA BB/CC Cream Brush, but I did find the dirtiest brush (which is always a foundation brush) to actually test the product. It does not take much swirling to get enough lather to cleanse your standard, dirty brush. I did have to cleanse my foundation brush three times before they came totally clean, which is something that is not going to work for me because Dawn cleanses my foundation brushes with only one wash.

My brushes were left with a light, floral scent. The scent was pleasant and did not linger once dry.

This is a great product for someone with a small brush stash that needs an easy, fool proof product to cleanse brushes in a snap.
