What comes to mind when I say fresh skin? My vision of fresh skin is visibly soft, bright, evenly toned skin that’s soft and smooth in texture. My skin is…. sorta fresh…smooth texture, skin tone is not as even as it used to be, but definitely not fresh. This kind of skin seems like a fantasy or some kind of unobtainable goal, but that’s not true. Not only can you have fresh skin, you can do so, and you don’t have the break the bank!
Women of color spend $7.5 billion a year on beauty products, shelling out twice as much on skincare as non-ethnic women. In an effort to help you find a few of the best skin care products for black women, I spent 28 days using key products from the Olay Luminous skincare line to see if they have what it takes to serve me a fresher face.
I was provided with 4 products from the Olay Luminous line, a micellar water, a formula booster, overnight mask, and hydrating lotion.
Olay Luminous Micellar Water, $9.49
Knowing how much I love micellar water, I was excited to see something new. Olay Luminous Micellar Water is a facial cleanser that removes makeup and impurities in one step without drying out the skin. It contains rice bran (soothes and moisturizes), aloe extract (moisturizes), niacinamide (renews skin cells) and glycerin (hydrates).
I LOVE Olay Luminous Micellar Water. Aside from it being affordable, it effortlessly removed every trace of dirt, oil, and makeup from my skin. As an added bonus, I love the packaging. Olay Micellar Water features a flip top pump to easily dispense product without spillage. Just flip the cap open, place your cotton pad in the basin, and pump!
Olay Luminous Miracle Boost Concentrate, $24.99
Olay Luminous Miracle Boost Concentrate is an advanced tone perfecting, ultra-lightweight formula booster, which is designed for use with a Luminous Moisturizer. It delivers 50% more tone active ingredients when paired with Olay Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream. It promises to fade the look of dark spots and uneven skin tone, enhance skin’s absorbency, and renews skin cells.
This serum is light in texture and dispenses by eyedropper.
Olay Luminous Light Hydrating Lotion, $26.99
Olay Luminous Light Hydrating Lotion is a lightweight moisturizer that hydrates the skin from within and promises to deliver luminous skin in just two weeks. The formula penetrates 10 layers deep into skin’s surface to hydrate and even skin tone and its unique Hydra-Release Technology releases hydrating droplets upon application to leave skin hydrated.
After applying the Miracle Boost Concentrate in the morning, I reached for this lotion that is perfect for the daytime! It’s very light in texture but still hydrated my super dry skin without leaving a greasy residue. The only thing this moisturizer lacks is SPF protection, which is vital for fresh skin.
Olay Regenerist Luminous Overnight Mask, $25.99
Olay Luminous Overnight Mask is for achieving bright, healthy-looking skin while you sleep! This gel moisturizer absorbs into the skin to work all night to even skin tone at the surface cell level.
I used this overnight mask after applying the Miracle Boost Concentrate, similar to the daytime routine. The overnight mask was light in texture but hydrating. I woke up to super soft skin. I’ll admit, it was very hard to cleanse my skin in the morning because my skin was just that soft and supple.
28 Days Later….
My skin was clean, fresh, hydrated and bright. Olay made it easier to achieve that no makeup makeup look day in and day out. I can see myself continuing to use these products beyond the 28-day challenge!
