OPI really outdid themselves with this year’s 18-piece Mariah Carey collection. The enormity has a variety of finishes and colors, thus making it a great stocking stuffer for just about everyone on your list.
All I Want For Christmas (is OPI)
The ubiquitous classic red creme. It’s very pigmented and is opaque after two coats. The formula is great, just in case you need to add another red creme to your collection.
Cute Little Vixen
Dark fuchsia shimmer. This reminds me a bit of OPI Diva of Geneva from the fall 2010 Swiss collection. Cute Little Vixen has a subtle gold shimmer that gives it a little complexity.
In My Santa Suit
A bright ornamental red shimmer. This one looks just like red satin; vibrant and full of depth.
Sleigh Ride For Two
A dark reddish purple creme with shimmer. This reminds me of a shimmer version of Pepe’s Purple Passion from OPI’s 2012 Muppets collection.
Visions Of Love
A glossy creme vampy red-brown. This isn’t unique by any means but I liked this most out of these six polishes. While winter isn’t pedicure season for most, Visions of Love is perfect for holiday party shoes.
Warm Me Up
A dark charcoal brown with silver shimmer. The base color is reminiscent of OPI’s current incarnation of My Private Jet.
All Sparkly And Gold
Gold glitter suspended in a darker base. The contrast between the glitter and base makes the color look antiqued. It is opaque after three coats.
I Snow You Love Me (shown over It’s Frosty Outside)
This one has been a bit notorious for application issues. Chunky glitter has never been a walk in the park to apply, but this one shouldn’t be applied as a traditional glitter polish. Instead, I fished out the circle glitter with my dotting tool. I LOVE the holographic effect on the glitter, so despite the time-consuming method, the end result is worth it.
My Favorite Ornament
A three-coater champagne-colored dense glitter. It looks similar to Zoya’s Tomoko Pixie Dust polish from Fall 2013.
Ski Slope Sweetie
White glass-flecks with a strong golden flash. This reminds me of a glass-fleck version of Chanel’s Pearl Drop. Unfortunately for me, neither polish is flattering on my skintone. This is shown with three coats.
Underneath The Mistletoe
A dark berry red jelly with pink and red glitter. It’s a pretty alternative to the traditional holiday red glitters such as China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps.
Gold flecked micro glitter and small black hex glitter in a clear base. While I have worn it alone with three coats, it is best as a topper.
Four of the Liquid Sand polishes are metallic, similar to Julie G’s Frosted Gumdrop Rock Candy and Blueberry Fizz. They have a combination of smaller metallic glitter and larger hexagonal glitter. They all are opaque after two coats, but are shown with three.
Baby Please Come Home is an icy purple matte metallic glitter.
It’s Frosty Outside is a silver matte metallic glitter.
Make Him Mine is a pink matte metallic glitter.
Silent Stars Go By is a light pink matte metallic glitter. It is cooler in comparison to Make Him Mine.
Emotions is a black liquid sand. Like the metallic glitters, it is a combination of smaller glitter and larger hexagonal glitter but is a lot less dense and requires three coats.
Kiss Me At Midnight has silver glitter and larger hexagonal glitter in a bright blue base. This polish needs three coats.
I’m fairly disappointed by the reds in this collection. I have to admit: due to the length of time I’ve been collecting, it does take a lot more for a collection to turn my head. I don’t necessarily think any of these are must-haves but the formula and application are great.
The glitters are also a mixed bag. I do like I Snow You Love Me, but I wish OPI packaged it as loose glitter in a gift set with a clear polish.
I wish there was a bit more color variety in this collection. It is very gold and red heavy, but I’d like a green or maybe even a dark blue-based plum.
Overall, this may not be one of my favorite OPI holiday collections, but I give OPI an A for effort for the sheer magnitude of this collection. I think there’s something for everyone here, from your picky sister to your adventurous cousin.
