“67% of US women are size 14-34. But they’re underrepresented on billboards, magazines, TV… everywhere. We believe all women should be seen and celebrated equally.”
Body Positivity is a word that is being used a lot these days. You hear it on social media and plus sized brands are beginning to use the term more and more. Body positivity basically means loving your body no matter what size you are.
Me? I’ve always been overweight. 5 children later and overweight magically (by magic I mean consuming ALOT of ice cream) became obese. Being obese comes with a lot of drama. People giving you unsolicited opinions about your weight, being teased for being fat and ALWAYS being told how unhealthy you are. The idea to society seems to be, in order to be healthy, you have to be thin. Body positivity fights back with society and says, “Hey! I’m beautiful right now, in this body!” You would think in a country in which 67% of all women are sized 14 to 34, we would get more love from the people surrounding us, especially the media.
But this body comes with a set of other issues- finding stylish clothes in my size that will make me look as confident on the outside, as I feel on the outside. Let’s face it, every brand is not ready to embrace body positivity, but Lane Bryant is. To celebrate the upcoming #PlusIsEqual Campaign,
I recently visited Lane Bryant and purchased a few new items to usher in the fall with some style. I’m putting my body on my blog in hopes that there is another woman, just like me that wants to see some representation of someone just like her.
Lane Bryant Spliced Maxi Dress, $39.96; Lane Bryant Distressed Jean Jacket, $79.95
I’m a sucker for long dresses and I love stripes. Wearing stripes was always my way of telling the world that yes, you can be plus size and wear stripes in any direction you wish.
Lane Bryant Foiled Heart Sweatshirt, $49.95; Genius Fit Black Skinny Jean, $69.95
I also love embracing my comfortable side, a pair of jeans, a sweater and a comfy pair of tennis shoes.
Come be body positive with me and Lane Bryant. <3
