Hyperpigmentation is a harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker than normal. This darkening is caused by the overproduction of melanin which forms deposits in the skin. There are many reasons for hyperpigmentation- pregnancy, certain health conditions such as Addison’s disease, the use of certain medications, and the most common reason- over exposure to the sun.
If you’ve read my article on hyperpigmentation before, then you know that one of the many solutions I list is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is the most natural and very efficient solution to evening out the skin, products that contain Vitamin C brighten the skin and eventually fade the dark marks. Vitamin C, in my opinion, is the slowest method and I suggest this for someone with a mild case of hyperpigmentation, or someone that is looking to brighten the skin. Makeup Artist and Licensed Esthetician Diana Solomon recommends Vitamin C peels as a safe alternative.
Because there are so many Vitamin C products on the market, I thought it would be best to start highlighting some of the best products for hyperpigmentation. First up, Refresh Vitamin C Serum.
Refresh Vitamin C Serum contains Clinical Strength 20% Vitamin C along with Ferulic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamins C, B3, B5, and E. This serum promises to protect skin from premature aging, free radical damage, oxidative stress, UV damage and environmental pollution. After a few weeks, you should notice more hydrated, even toned skin.
Refresh Vitamin C Serum is packaged in a blue, glass, 1fl oz bottle. It comes packaged with an eye dropper for easy dispensing. Refresh serum has little to no scent. The texture of the serum is very similar to water and penetrates into the skin. This serum will work wonderfully when applied before your moisturizer and sunscreen. Apply a few drops to the neck and face and allow to dry. I found that the serum dries in less than one minute, but I allowed three minutes to pass before applying my moisturizer and sunscreen.
Speaking of sunscreen, it is very important to wear one. I can’t stress this enough. Because sun damage is a lead cause of hyperpigmentation, all your efforts to lighten the dark spots will go in vain if you do not incorporate this important step into your skincare routine.
Overall, I like Refresh Vitamin C Serum and I recommend you add this serum to your skincare routine for insanely hydrated skin with no dark spots or hyperpigmentation.
