#SheetMaskMonday: Everything You Want (And Need) To Know About Neutrogena Hydrogel Masks

Neutrogena expanded the Hydro Boost line back at the beginning of the year with more cleansers, exfoliating scrubs, overnight gel masks, SPF and sheet masks. After previewing the new goodies on Twitter (and sparking a conversation on Reddit’s Skincare Addiction), everyone was scattering out to their nearest mass merchant retailer to find them, and everyone collectively fell in love. At $2.99 a pop (which is SUPER affordable for a hydrogel sheet mask), it’s only right that I create a guide on these miraculous hydrogel masks.

Neutrogena Hydrogel Masks (SRP, $2.99) are hydrogel in nature. Hydrogel masks are typically on the pricey side and are made from gelatin. They are constructed into two pieces- one for the upper section of the face and one for the lower.

Neutrogena hydrogel masks adhere to the face textured side down. It can be a tad difficult to distinguish the textured side from the smooth, but as a note, the smooth side will slide right off your face.

There are three formulas available- Hydro Boost, Deep Clean and Radiance Boost.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Hydrogel Mask

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. The essence has a light fragrance similar to Hydro Boost moisturizer, so beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid, known to increase hydration and castor oil to moisturize.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Hydrogel Mask

Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. It has a light, aquatic (salty, beachy) fragrance. Beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, castor oil for moisture and moringa oleifera seed extract, which has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties to heal minor skin ailments (the purifying ingredient in the mask).

Neutrogena Radiance Boost Brightening Hydrogel Mask

Neutrogena Radiance Boost Brightening Hydrogel Mask is a single-use sheet mask in a foil pack soaked in essence. It has a light floral fragrance. Beware if you have sensitive/acne prone skin type, as fragrance additives are known the irritate the skin. This sheet mask contains hyaluronic acid for hydration, castor oil for moisture and vitamin B3 (niacinamide) to brighten the skin.

Neutrogena Hydrogel masks are a plus because they are widely accessible and affordable for a hydrogel sheet mask.  On the flipside, I personally believe they could use some improvements. For starters, these masks contain too much essence. It drips and is messy in the midst of trying to find the texture side of the mask. Hold the mask over the foil pack for a few seconds to allow a majority of the mask to drip off the excess essence. You can set that excess essence to the side to use later. So maybe it’s not a bad thing after all. My other complaint is about finding the textured side of the mask in the first place. Adding a tad more texture would make for easier application and better adherence.
