Black Girl Friendly? Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Swatches And Review

SAM_0205

Urban Decay Naked Basics is the newest baby to join the Naked family. The concept is simple- Urban Decay Naked 1 and Naked 2 had too many shimmery shades, and only a few mattes.  Urban Decay created a new nude palette consisting of one demi-matte color, and 5 mattes. Work safe shape options increased! Keep reading to check out my swatches, and my thoughts. Black girls who were apprehensive about purchasing this palette, you definitely want to keep reading.

I love the packaging. Naked basics is six full sized shades in a compact rubber case. The finish of the compact is like suede, which will put you in the mood for the shadows you are about to use!

Urban Decay Naked Basics:

  • Venus- The lone shimmery color of the bunch, it is a very well pigmented vanilla shade.
  • Foxy- This one is also in the Naked 2 palette, Foxy is a matte French vanilla.
  • Walk Of Shame- Matte Crème Brule
  • Naked 2- Matte taupe
  • Faint- matte medium brown
  • Crave- matte charcoal black

Top row- Venus, Foxy, Walk Of Shame (WOS)

Bottom row- Naked 2, Faint, Crave

Foxy by far has the worst pigmentation of the bunch, and Naked 2 and Faint have the best pigmentation of the matte shades. All the shades with the exception of Foxy, apply easily and smooth. Blending is effortless. I love Crave as a cake liner. I really love this palette. Yeah I said it.

I was the first person that threw this palette some major side eye because the shades were matte and pale. My assumption was that it would not be black girl friendly. That’s not true. It’s great! Check out the swatches I did on my mom’s hand. She’s a MAC NC 50:

Top row- Venus, Foxy, Walk Of Shame

Bottom row- Naked 2, Faint, Crave

See how well the colors show up on her skin? And they don’t look ashy! And look at Faint (bottom row, middle shade) That’s a nice shadow for a nude look on a black woman. If you were apprehensive about purchasing this palette because you are black, don’t be. You cant lose, it’s $27!!

Great review! Although, it seems like these naked palettes just keep repeating themselves, this palette is great for your everyday makeup routine AND that black is awesome!
