There’s a lot to consider when it comes to Christmas. Presents, dinner prep and making time to see everyone are usually top of the list. With all that and more to consider, the leadup is stressful to say the least. As such, it’s all too easy to forget about Christmas fashion until you’re staring at your wardrobe on the morning, wondering what to wear.
Not everyone likes to go all out with Christmas jumpers, but most women are aware that this is the perfect excuse to get out the partywear and have fun. No matter what you’re doing, Christmas is an event and your outfit should reflect that. After all, the majority of us don’t get many excuses to dress up!
If you’ve never delved into a ‘Christmas outfit’ before, you might be wondering how you go about putting one together. After all, festive dressing is a whole new ball game. Lucky for you, we’ve put together some pointers to ensure your Christmas outfit ‘17 is a winner.
Don’t stay in your dressing gown all day
How many of you can honestly say you’ve never spent a Christmas day in your dressing gown? We’ve ALL done it at some point. In some ways, it’s a must-do. But, if you want to perfect your Christmas outfit, it’s essential you scrap the gown. Let’s be honest; dressing gowns are hardly the height of fashion.
As a compromise, you could stay wrapped up until mid-morning, and then head off to get changed into the real deal. That way, you don’t have to kiss goodbye to your dressing gown altogether. After all, Christmas day is just about the only time when it’s about acceptable to laze about for that amount of time.
Don’t take yourself too seriously
Christmas is all about fun. It’s a time when fashion rules relax, and we’re allowed, nay, encouraged, to wear clothes we wouldn’t be seen dead in at any other time. To ensure you embrace this, it’s important not to take yourself too seriously. You can look good in anything if you wear it with pride, and the same goes for Rudolph jumpers, Christmas shirts, and just about any other marvel you pick out for the day. In fact, the more you immerse yourself in the festivities, the better you’ll look. Why not go all out with Christmas tree earrings and a Santa hat to boot? If in doubt, try it out. The chances are it’ll look a lot better than you’re anticipating.
To put yourself at ease, try to encourage those around you to embrace the fun, too. If you’re the only one wearing Christmas attire, you’ll find it hard to feel confident. But, if the whole family gets involved, you’ll feel much more at ease. You could invest in some personalized Christmas shirts for the occasion. You’re sure to feel confident if the whole family is wearing the same as you. And, we all know that confidence is the secret to looking good.
Get the color scheme right
The color scheme is the most critical aspect of any festive outfit. After all, that’s where the real festivity lies. Colors are the thing that will set your Christmas wardrobe apart from any other. The good news is, the palette isn’t a difficult one to get your head around. Even better, pretty much all Christmas colors look good together. You could settle for a colorful outfit, filled with the greens and reds of a traditional Christmas. Or, you could keep things more minimalist, with creams and golds. You could even mix the two if you wanted. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to look the part with palettes like these.
Glitter is your friend
Glitter is always a brave fashion choice. It comes in and out of style like nothing else, and has the potential to go wrong if you aren’t careful. Most of the time, glittery options are best kept to a minimum. A few statement pieces are all well and good, but overload could see people confusing you with a disco ball. And, no, that’s not a good thing.
But, when it comes to Christmas, the glitter rules are another change you need to get your head around. The more, the better. If you think you have enough on, you could probably get away with a little more. That’s just the way it is. So, stop shying away from those glittery options during your planning process. Instead, embrace the glitter. Again, you might be surprised by how good it looks. Glittery boots are big business at the moment. A pair of those is sure to add a touch of glamor to your Christmas proceedings. But, don’t stop there. Why not invest in a green, glittery jumper to keep the theme going. You could even go all out, with glittery eyeshadow, or some facial glitter. Just make sure you put some newspaper down before you get started, or things could get a little messy!
You can keep it subtle and still do Christmas justice
If the above points leave you quaking; fear not. It’s completely possible to keep things subtle, and still inject plenty of Christmas cheer. If you aren’t comfortable with a festive jumper, why not stick to a glittery option which adds that touch of occasion without going over the top? There are many such jumpers in the shops at the moment, so you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Or, you could opt for a comfortable cozy outfit, such as thick tights and a skirt, or an oversized jumper. You could add a splash of glamor by incorporating glitter into your makeup. Even just investing in some festive earrings would do the job. Small touches can have as much impact as going all out if you do them right. So, don’t be afraid to experiment. Pick out different aspects from each of the above points and see which works best for you. Within no time, you’re sure to have a Christmas outfit to put Santa to shame.
